1. What an AJ6JJ Adapter Does

An AJ6JJ adapter is a three-port tee whose branch leg passes through a panel and is locked by a bulkhead nut. It takes one fluid line in, sends it out in line with the run, and takes a third connection off at right angles to the run, through the panel.

This JIC adapter therefore has three ports and their columns, plus the panel joint:

  • E is one end of the run, a JIC 74° cone male port.
  • F is the other end of the run, a JIC 74° cone male port, directly opposite E.
  • G is the branch port, a JIC 74° cone male port on the end of the bulkhead stem that passes through the panel.
  • The bulkhead lock nut is the panel joint. It is not a fluid port; it clamps the stem to the panel and is printed as hex S2.

Run versus branch geometry matters on this series more than on a plain tee, because the run and the branch are not interchangeable in installation. The run is the straight axis through E and F, and it is the axis the panel sits square to. The branch is the perpendicular axis from the run centre line out through the panel to G. Fluid can flow in any direction through the tee; the geometry only describes where each port points.

2.3 Construction and Materials

The body is machined from bar stock on CNC lathes. The run, the branch stem, the three 74° cones and the lock nut thread are turned and checked so that the branch stays square to the run axis.

  • Body material: carbon steel as standard; 304 stainless steel or 316 stainless steel on request.
  • Plating and finish: trivalent chromium zinc plating (Cr3+) for carbon steel as standard; zinc-nickel plating available. Plating performance is confirmed per order rather than published as a series figure.
  • Seal material options: none in the tee itself, because all three ports are metal cone joints. Where a seal material is required in the circuit, NBR, FKM and EPDM remain the options for the mating hose and tube assemblies.

2.4 Pressure and Temperature

Working pressure for an AJ6JJ adapter is not set by the series code. It is governed by the thread size, the wall thickness of the body and the tube, the sealing method and the material selected, and is confirmed per order by HENGHUA engineering.

Temperature is a material question and is stated here as a material fact rather than a performance claim. For NBR seals the working range is approximately -30°C to +100°C, for FKM (Viton-type) approximately -20°C to +200°C, and for EPDM approximately -40°C to +120°C. What each column means

  • PART NO. – the HENGHUA part number: the prefix AJ6JJ plus the size code. Adding LN after the size code, for example AJ6JJ-12LN, orders the adapter with its bulkhead lock nut.
  • E – the thread of the first run port, a JIC 74° cone male end, printed as diameter x threads per inch in the SAE style, for example 9/16"X18.

Nut and sleeve are ordered separately. The AJ6JJ tee does not include them, and each of the three cone ends needs its own nut and sleeve for the tube it carries. Use nut NB200 with sleeve NB500 for metric tube and with sleeve NB300 for inch tube. The bulkhead lock nut is ordered with the tee by adding the LN suffix.

3. How to Read an AJ6JJ Part Number

An AJ6JJ part number has two elements, plus the optional lock nut suffix: the series prefix and one size code.

The prefix AJ6JJ identifies the geometry of this bulkhead adapter: a branch tee with three JIC 74° cone male ports, where the branch leg is a bulkhead stem. The three J letters record that all three ports are JIC cone ends, which is why the table prints the same thread three times per row.

The size code is the only variable: 04 through 16, taken from the SAE dash convention based on the nominal tube outside diameter in sixteenths of an inch. There is no second size code on this series, because the printed range is single-size only, so a stepped tee is not part of the standard range.

A buyer ordering AJ6JJ-08 therefore receives a tee whose run takes two 3/4″x16 tube assemblies and whose branch carries the same thread through the panel. Check the panel thickness and the amount of stem available beyond the lock nut before ordering, because the panel sits between the body shoulder and the lock nut.

4. Installation and Fitment

This bulkhead adapter has three fluid joints and one mechanical joint. The three cone ends are tightened until the cones seat metal-to-metal with no sealant in the cone path. The panel joint is tightened with the lock nut at hex S2 until the body is clamped square to the panel. HENGHUA does not print a single torque figure for this hydraulic adapter, because correct tightening depends on the mating ports, the tube material and the wall thickness.

Mounting sequence: fit the body through the panel cutout first, bring the body square to the panel, then run the lock nut down and tighten it against the panel. Until the lock nut is tight, the body can rotate, so the run orientation has to be set before the tube ends are made up.

Orientation: the branch passes through the panel and the run lies on the other side. Set the run so that both run ports are accessible with a wrench, because a run port that ends up against the panel face cannot be serviced.

Cone seat handling: keep all three 74° cones and their mating seats clean and free of nicks, and replace the tee if a cone has been deformed by overtightening.

Panel joint: check that the panel face is flat where the body shoulder beds, because a body held off square loads the stem and the lock nut unevenly. Confirm the cutout and the panel thickness against the drawing before assembly.

Contamination control: cap all three open ports before storage, because debris on a cone seat stops the joint from bedding.

Reuse policy: a body with undamaged cones can be reused; the lock nut can be reused if its thread is clean, the tube nuts and sleeves are replaced at every rebuild, and any panel gasket is renewed.

Common fitment errors and their symptoms:

  • Tightening the tube ends before the lock nut. Symptom: the body rotates in the panel and both run joints lose their alignment.
  • A panel cutout that is too large. Symptom: the body shifts under load and the lock nut cannot clamp it square.
  • Overtightening a cone to stop a weep. Symptom: a deformed cone and a leak that returns at the next pressure cycle.

Six-step assembly

  1. Confirm the part number against the line list, and check whether the lock nut is included by looking for the LN suffix.
  2. Inspect the three cones, the stem thread and the body shoulder for nicks, corrosion and previous overtightening marks.
  3. Fit the body through the panel cutout, seat the body shoulder on the panel face and set the run orientation.
  4. Run the lock nut down the stem by hand, then tighten it at hex S2 with the body held at hex S1 until the tee is clamped square.
  5. Fit a nut and sleeve to each of the three tubes, then make up the three cone joints in stages until each cone seats.
  6. Pressurise the circuit, check all three ports and the panel joint, and re-check tightness after the first thermal cycle.

5. Applications and Industries

Control panels and bulkhead routing. Hydraulic lines that cross from one side of a panel or cabinet to the other need a defined pass-through point, and this bulkhead adapter provides it while branching the line on the far side. What is the difference between JIC 37° flare and ORFS, and which should I use?

A JIC 37° flare joint seals metal-to-metal on a 37° conical flare face under SAE J514. An ORFS joint seals a flat face against an elastomeric O-ring under SAE J1453. Choose the family that matches the port already on the equipment. The AJ6JJ adapter is on the JIC 74° cone side of SAE J514 at all three ports.

Can NPT and BSPT be interchanged?

No. NPT is a 60° taper pipe thread under ANSI/ASME B1.20.1, and BSPT is a 55° taper pipe thread under ISO 7-1. The thread form, the angle and the pitch differ, so the two will not seal even though some sizes start by hand. No port of this tee is a pipe thread; all three are straight-thread JIC cone ends.

How do I identify the correct AJ6JJ size?
