1. What a 1BL Adapter Does

A 1BL adapter is a rigid straight adapter for systems in which a BSPP (G) threaded port must accept a metric (M) stud end, or a metric port must accept a BSPP line. The female side of the joint is sealed in one of two ways. Against an ISO 1179 port with a 60° cone, the BSP male end centres on the cone and seals metal to metal. Against a flat-faced port, the same end seals on a bonded washer (Dowty-type) that is compressed between the hex shoulder and the port face.

The metric end is a male stud with a bonded seal seat, so the joint is completed on a flat face at the metric side. 2.4 Pressure and Temperature

3. How to Read a 1BL Adapter Part Number

The code has three blocks. 1BL is the series: BSP male double use for 60° seat or bonded seal, with a metric male end carrying a bonded seal. The first number after the prefix is the BSPP (G) size, counted in sixteenths of an inch. The second number is the metric thread nominal diameter in mm.

Worked example: 1BL-08-22 decodes as 1BL series, 08 = 8/16 in = G1/2″X14 on the BSPP side, 22 = M22X1.5 on the metric side. The chart gives the bonded washer code ZHD-22, A = 16 mm, B = 14 mm, L = 41.5 mm and hex S1 = 30 mm.

Prepare the threads and check the port face first. Clean both ports, remove burrs and old sealant residue, and confirm the port face is flat and unmarked, because a bonded seal cannot bridge a scored or dented face. Blow out the line before assembly so no swarf reaches the seat.

Tighten in the sequence that suits the seal. With a bonded washer, fit the washer over the metric stud first, then run the adapter in finger-tight and tighten to a snug, firm seat that compresses the washer without extruding it. Do not add a second washer to take up thread length, and do not use thread tape or paste on a bonded seal or a 60° cone seat joint, because the seal is made on the face or the cone, not on the thread flanks. What is the difference between BSPP and BSPT, and can they be interchanged? BSPP (G thread, ISO 228-1) is a parallel thread where pressure tightness is not made on the threads, so the joint seals on a 60° cone seat or on a bonded washer against a flat face. BSPT (R, Rc, Rp thread, ISO 7-1) is a taper thread where pressure tightness is made on the threads themselves and a sealant is required. They are not interchangeable: a taper male forced into a parallel female port damages both threads and will not seal reliably.

What is the difference between a 60° cone seat and a bonded seal, and which should I choose? The 60° cone seat seals metal to metal where the male cone meets the matching cone in the port, and it needs no extra sealing element. A bonded seal (Dowty-type washer) seals on a flat face and is compressed between the hex shoulder and the port face. Choose by the port you have: a port with a 60° cone calls for the cone seat, a flat-faced port calls for the bonded washer. This series supports both on the BSP end.

How do I identify the correct 1BL size? Read the two threads off the ports, not off the old adapter alone.
