87391-RW 90 Degree SAE Flange Fitting 3000 PSI

Our 90 degree SAE flange fitting 3000 psi, series 87391-RW, is a one-piece crimp-on elbow with an SAE J518 Code 61 four-bolt flange head set at a right angle. It connects braided hydraulic hose to SAE flange ports on pumps, valve manifolds and cylinders used in heavy hydraulic systems, turning the hose immediately at the port. The range covers 1/2″ to 2.1/2″ flange sizes, dash size -08 to -32, hose bore DN12 to DN50. Every elbow is formed in one piece, without welding, and 100% dimensionally inspected before shipment.

Compliance and standards:

  • SAE J518 Code 61 (four-bolt flange, 3000 psi series)
  • ISO 6162 (flange connections for fluid power)
  • ISO 12151-3 (hose fittings with flange ends)
  • SAE J516 (general hydraulic hose fitting design reference)

Why buyers choose this elbow:

  • One-piece 90 degree flange elbow. Formed from a single forging or cold-headed blank. No weld at the bend, no weak point under impulse pressure.
  • The standard right-angle connection. Pumps, valve blocks and cylinders use 90 degree outlets more than any other angle. This elbow covers them with one part.
  • Extended height variants included. The H100, H127 and H150 versions raise the hose outlet to 100, 127 or 150 mm above the flange face, solving installation height problems without extra adapters.
  • Full flange size range. 1/2″ through 2.1/2″ (SAE J518 Code 61), covering flange ports from DN12 to DN50.

Notes: Part numbers marked (H100), (H127) or (H150) are extended height variants with Dim. H of 100, 127 or 150 mm, used where the hose outlet must clear an obstruction or reach a specific routing height. Dim. C (flange O.D.) and Dim. D (bolt spacing) match the SAE J518 Code 61 standard. The -RW suffix denotes the braided-hose version; for spiral-wound hose, use series 87392-XX-XXRW.

Why a One-Piece 90 Degree Flange Elbow

A 90 degree outlet is the most common port direction in hydraulic systems. Pumps, valve manifolds and cylinder heads all route hoses at right angles. This 90 degree SAE flange fitting 3000 psi replaces a straight flange fitting plus a separate 90 degree adapter, removing two potential leak points and extra length.

The elbow body is formed in one piece by hot forging or cold heading, then machined to tolerance. There is no welded seam at the bend. Our impulse testing found that a one-piece elbow survives pressure cycling significantly longer than a welded two-piece elbow of the same size. The compact 90 degree geometry also keeps the hose close to the machine frame, which reduces cover wear and protects the hose from snagging.

Extended Height Variants – When the Standard Height Does Not Fit

Standard flange elbows fix the hose outlet at a set height above the flange face. On some machines, that height lands inside an obstruction, or the hose must clear a beam or a cover. The H100, H127 and H150 variants of this series raise the outlet to exactly 100, 127 or 150 mm above the flange face, without any extra adapter or spacer.

This is a practical answer to a real installation problem. Instead of stacking adapters (each one a potential leak point), you order one part with the correct height built in. If you need a different height, our factory can produce custom H values on request.

How the Flange O-Ring Seals

The flange face of this fitting carries an O-ring groove. When the four bolts are tightened, the O-ring is compressed between this flange face and the mating flange face of the port. The O-ring, not the metal faces, carries the seal.

The seal tolerates minor surface scratches on the flange faces, withstands high impulse pressure without loosening, and can be serviced by simply replacing the O-ring.

Insert Depth and Crimp O.D. – The Two Numbers Engineers Ask For

Insert depth is the length of the barbed tail that enters the hose bore. Crimp O.D. is the outside diameter of the ferrule after crimping. Together they decide whether the assembly holds pressure or leaks at the crimp zone.

HENGHUA publishes the matched insert depth and crimp O.D. for every hose construction we supply, including SAE 100 R1AT, R2AT and EN 853 1SN / 2SN. The values are hose-specific because reinforcement thickness changes the stack-up. Request our crimp data sheet with your hose model and we will return the exact crimp O.D. and die selection within one working day.

Our production testing found that a verified crimp O.D. within the published tolerance (typically +/- 0.2 mm) gives a burst safety margin of 4:1 or higher on the complete assembly. Measure with a digital caliper after every crimp.

Material and Heat Treatment

  • Carbon steel (standard): high-strength cold-headed or hot-forged carbon steel (20# / 35# / 45# grades). The tail and flange are case-hardened with a carburizing and quenching process for fatigue resistance. Reference hardness range is HRC 20-28 on the core with a hardened case.
  • Surface finish: white zinc or color (yellow) zinc plating with passivation. Optional zinc-nickel and Dacromet coatings are available for higher salt spray requirements.
  • Stainless steel (option): 304, 316 or 316L stainless steel for corrosive media and washdown environments.

Pressure and Temperature Ratings

The connection rating follows the SAE J518 Code 61 reference table below. These are reference values (§) for the fitting connection itself. The final working pressure of a hose assembly is set by the hose construction and the approved crimping specification.

Flange Size Hose Bore DN (mm) Reference Connection Pressure (bar)§
1/2″ to 1″ 12 to 32 207
1.1/4″ to 1.1/2″ 25 to 40 172
2″ 40 to 50 138
2.1/2″ 50 103

§Reference values per SAE J518 Code 61 (3000 psi series) connection classes. Confirm the assembly rating with the HENGHUA crimp data sheet matched to your hose.

Temperature range: -40°C to +100°C for the fitting in continuous service. At elevated temperature, apply the standard SAE J517 style derating to the assembly working pressure. Our technical data sheet includes a pressure-temperature derating chart; contact us and we will send it with your quotation.

Pressure testing: HENGHUA can supply assemblies proof-tested up to 100% of the rated working pressure, with test certificates on request.

How to Select the Right 90 Degree SAE Flange Fitting 3000 PSI

Selection is a four-step process. First, confirm the port needs a right angle. Second, match the hose bore to the dash size. Third, match the flange size and height to your port. Fourth, confirm the hose construction version (-RW for braided, 87392 series for spiral).

Part Number Structure

Read any HENGHUA part number in three segments. Example: 87391-16-16RW or 87391-16-16(H100)RW.

Segment Value Meaning
Series 87391 90 degree SAE flange fitting, 3000 psi (Code 61)
Flange code 16 1″ flange (the number is the flange size code)
Dash size 16 Hose bore DN25, dash -16
Height code (H100) Optional: outlet height 100 / 127 / 150 mm
Suffix RW Braided hose version (spiral hose uses 87392 series)

Select by Hose Series

The 87391-RW elbow is designed for braided hydraulic hose. Recommended matching constructions:

  • SAE 100 R1AT (one wire braid) – for -08 to -32 sizes
  • SAE 100 R2AT (two wire braid) – for -08 to -32 sizes
  • EN 853 1SN and 2SN (equivalent European constructions)
  • Spiral constructions (EN 856 4SP / 4SH) – use the 87392 series version

Select by Flange Size and Height

The flange head follows the SAE J518 Code 61 pattern, which bolts directly onto standard Code 61 flange ports:

  • Small sizes: 1/2″ and 3/4″ flange (dash -08 to -16)
  • Medium sizes: 1″ and 1.1/4″ flange (dash -12 to -24)
  • Large sizes: 1.1/2″, 2″ and 2.1/2″ flange (dash -20 to -32)
  • Height variants: standard H, or extended H100 / H127 / H150 for clearance and routing height requirements

Assembly uses four standard bolts (not supplied) and the O-ring on the flange face. Tighten the bolts in a cross pattern to the torque value on the data sheet.

90 Degree vs 45 Degree vs Straight – Which One Do You Need

Use a straight fitting when the hose leaves the port in line with the port axis. Use a 90 degree elbow when the hose must turn immediately, such as at a pump port or valve manifold edge. Use a 45 degree elbow when the hose needs a shallow angle change. When in doubt, send us a sketch of your routing and our engineers will confirm the correct angle, size and height within one working day.

Assembly Guide: Four Steps to a Safe Hose Assembly

Follow this process for every crimped assembly. It applies to every 90 degree SAE flange fitting 3000 psi size from dash -08 to -32. Skipping one step is the most common cause of early fitting failure.

Step 1 – Cut the hose square. Use a sharp hose cutter. A square cut face lets the fitting seat evenly inside the hose. A beveled or ragged cut leaves voids that become leak paths.

Step 2 – Mark the insert depth. Measure the insert depth from the HENGHUA crimp data sheet. Mark a line on the hose cover at that distance. The mark must remain visible after insertion.

Step 3 – Lubricate and insert. Apply a thin layer of compatible assembly lubricant to the hose bore and the barbed tail. Push the fitting in with a twisting motion until the depth mark aligns with the tail end. Stop at the mark. Do not force past it.

Step 4 – Crimp and verify. Select the correct die set for your hose and fitting size. Crimp in one continuous stroke. After crimping, measure the crimp O.D. with a digital caliper and compare it with the tolerance on the crimp data sheet. Record the value on your quality log. A correct crimp O.D. is the difference between a 10-year assembly and a field failure.

Safety Warnings – Read Before Crimping

  • Never mix brands. Hoses and fittings from different manufacturers may share the same dimensions but use different crimp parameters. Always use a matched hose, fitting and crimp data sheet.
  • Never seal the flange face with tape. The O-ring in the flange groove carries the seal. Thread sealant tape or paste on the flange face destroys the seal.
  • Check the O-ring before assembly. A cut, pinched or hardened O-ring must be replaced. Never assemble the flange without it.
  • Do not mix Code 61 and Code 62 flanges. Code 62 (6000 psi) flanges look similar but have different dimensions. This series is Code 61 (3000 psi); never bolt it onto a Code 62 port.
  • Tighten bolts in a cross pattern. Tighten the four bolts alternately to the torque value on the data sheet to keep the O-ring evenly compressed.
  • Never reuse a crimped fitting. Once crimped, the ferrule zone is work-hardened. A re-crimp cannot restore the original grip.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a 90 degree SAE flange fitting 3000 psi?

It is a one-piece elbow hydraulic hose fitting with an SAE J518 Code 61 four-bolt flange head and an O-ring groove on the flange face. The 90 degree outlet redirects the hose at a right angle to the flange port. The system follows ISO 6162 and ISO 12151-3.

What are the H100, H127 and H150 variants?

They are extended height versions where the hose outlet sits 100, 127 or 150 mm above the flange face. Use them when the standard elbow height lands inside an obstruction or the hose must clear a specific routing height.

What is the difference between Code 61 and Code 62 flanges?

Code 61 is the 3000 psi series; Code 62 is the 6000 psi series with larger dimensions for the same nominal size. This fitting is Code 61. Never bolt a Code 61 flange onto a Code 62 port.

How does the flange seal?

The O-ring in the flange face groove is compressed between the two flange faces when the four bolts are tightened. The O-ring, not the metal faces, carries the seal.

Which hose works with the 87391-RW fitting?

The 87391-RW version is designed for braided hydraulic hose such as SAE 100 R1AT, R2AT and EN 853 1SN / 2SN. For spiral-wound hose, use the 87392 series.
