24211-RW ORFS Female O-Ring Seal Fitting
Our ORFS female O-ring seal fitting, series 24211-RW, is a crimp-on hydraulic hose fitting built to the American ORFS (O-Ring Face Seal) system, with a UNF female thread and a flat face seat. It connects braided hydraulic hose to ORFS female ports on pumps, valves and cylinders made to SAE J1453. The flat seat receives the O-ring tip of the mating ORFS male connector, creating a zero-leak face seal. The range covers 9/16″-18 to 2″-12 UNF threads, dash size -04 to -24, hose bore DN6 to DN40. Every fitting is 100% dimensionally inspected before shipment.
Compliance and standards:
- SAE J1453 (O-ring face seal / ORFS system)
- ISO 8434-3 (O-ring face seal connectors)
- UNF threads (Unified National Fine, inch based)
- SAE J516 (general hydraulic hose fitting design reference)
Why buyers choose this fitting:
- Flat face seat for the ORFS O-ring. The flat seat mates against the O-ring tip of the male ORFS connector. The compressed O-ring carries the seal, with no metal-to-metal fit-up required.
- Zero-leak face seal. ORFS is the preferred connection for high pressure, high impulse and mobile hydraulic applications where cone-type connections weep.
- Pairs with our ORFS male fittings. The matching male side is our 14211 series ORFS male O-ring seal fitting, completing the ORFS connection in one order.
- Full UNF thread range. 9/16″-18 through 2″-12, covering the complete SAE J1453 dash grid from -04 to -24.

Notes: Dim. A is the assembly reference length from the nut face to the hose-end shoulder. Dim. C is the cone zone length. Hex S2 is the wrench size across flats. The -RW suffix denotes the braided-hose version; for spiral-wound hose, use series 24212-XX-XXRW.
How the ORFS Flat Seat Works
The ORFS female fitting carries a flat face seat inside the threaded end. The O-ring itself lives in a groove at the tip of the mating ORFS male connector (our 14211 series). When the UNF female thread is tightened onto the male end, the male O-ring tip presses against this flat seat and the O-ring is compressed. The O-ring, not metal, carries the seal.
This is why ORFS is called the face seal system: the seal happens on the flat face, perpendicular to the thread axis, rather than on a cone. The design tolerates surface scratches and minor nicks on the seat, withstands high impulse pressure without loosening, and can be repeatedly assembled and disassembled with a simple O-ring replacement.
ORFS vs JIC – Which One Do You Need
JIC (37 degree flare) is the classic American connection, economical and widely available. ORFS is the upgrade: the O-ring face seal eliminates the metal-to-metal fit-up that causes JIC weeping under high impulse and high pressure.
Choose ORFS when the circuit runs at high pressure with sharp pressure spikes, such as pump discharge lines, pressure washing equipment and mobile hydraulic systems. Choose JIC when the application is standard pressure and cost matters most.
Insert Depth and Crimp O.D. – The Two Numbers Engineers Ask For
Insert depth is the length of the barbed tail that enters the hose bore. Crimp O.D. is the outside diameter of the ferrule after crimping. Together they decide whether the assembly holds pressure or leaks at the crimp zone.
HENGHUA publishes the matched insert depth and crimp O.D. for every hose construction we supply, including SAE 100 R1AT, R2AT and EN 853 1SN / 2SN. The values are hose-specific because reinforcement thickness changes the stack-up. Request our crimp data sheet with your hose model and we will return the exact crimp O.D. and die selection within one working day.
Our production testing found that a verified crimp O.D. within the published tolerance (typically +/- 0.2 mm) gives a burst safety margin of 4:1 or higher on the complete assembly. Measure with a digital caliper after every crimp.
Material and Heat Treatment
- Carbon steel (standard): high-strength cold-headed or hot-forged carbon steel (20# / 35# / 45# grades). The tail and flat seat are case-hardened with a carburizing and quenching process for fatigue resistance. Reference hardness range is HRC 20-28 on the core with a hardened case.
- Surface finish: white zinc or color (yellow) zinc plating with passivation. Optional zinc-nickel and Dacromet coatings are available for higher salt spray requirements.
- Stainless steel (option): 304, 316 or 316L stainless steel for corrosive media and washdown environments.
Pressure and Temperature Ratings
The connection rating follows the SAE J1453 O-ring face seal reference table below. These are reference values (§) for the fitting connection itself. The final working pressure of a hose assembly is set by the hose construction and the approved crimping specification.
| Dash Size | Hose Bore DN (mm) | Reference Connection Pressure (bar)§ |
|---|---|---|
| -04 | 6 | 345 |
| -06 | 10 | 345 |
| -08 | 12 | 345 |
| -10 | 16 | 275 |
| -12 | 20 | 200 |
| -16 | 25 | 200 |
| -20 | 32 | 135 |
| -24 | 40 | 135 |
§Reference values per SAE J1453 O-ring face seal connection classes. Confirm the assembly rating with the HENGHUA crimp data sheet matched to your hose.
Temperature range: -40°C to +100°C with the standard NBR O-ring on the mating male end. At elevated temperature, apply the standard SAE J517 style derating to the assembly working pressure.
Pressure testing: HENGHUA can supply assemblies proof-tested up to 100% of the rated working pressure, with test certificates on request.
How to Select the Right ORFS Female O-Ring Seal Fitting
Selection is a three-step process. First, match the hose bore to the dash size. Second, match the UNF thread to your port. Third, confirm the hose construction version (-RW for braided, 24212 series for spiral).
Part Number Structure
Read any HENGHUA part number in three segments. Example: 24211-08-08RW.
| Segment | Value | Meaning |
|---|---|---|
| Series | 24211 | ORFS female O-ring seal (O-ring face seal system) |
| Thread code | 08 | 13/16″-16 UNF (the number is the dash code) |
| Dash size | 08 | Hose bore DN12, dash -08 |
| Suffix | RW | Braided hose version (spiral hose uses 24212 series) |
Select by Hose Series
The 24211-RW fitting is designed for braided hydraulic hose. Recommended matching constructions:
- SAE 100 R1AT (one wire braid) – for -04 to -24 sizes
- SAE 100 R2AT (two wire braid) – for -04 to -24 sizes
- EN 853 1SN and 2SN (equivalent European constructions)
Select by Thread Size
The flat seat receives the O-ring tip of the mating ORFS male connector. All threads are UNF (Unified National Fine):
- Small sizes: 9/16″-18, 11/16″-16, 13/16″-16 (dash -04 to -08)
- Medium sizes: 1″-14, 1.3/16″-12 (dash -08 to -12)
- Large sizes: 1.7/16″-12, 1.11/16″-12, 2″-12 (dash -12 to -24)
Tightening is via the hex S2 with a standard wrench. The O-ring is carried by the mating male end, so assembly is a simple screw-on operation.

Assembly Guide: Four Steps to a Safe Hose Assembly
Follow this process for every crimped assembly. It applies to every ORFS female O-ring seal fitting size from dash -04 to -24. Skipping one step is the most common cause of early fitting failure.
Step 1 – Cut the hose square. Use a sharp hose cutter. A square cut face lets the fitting seat evenly inside the hose. A beveled or ragged cut leaves voids that become leak paths.
Step 2 – Mark the insert depth. Measure the insert depth from the HENGHUA crimp data sheet. Mark a line on the hose cover at that distance. The mark must remain visible after insertion.
Step 3 – Lubricate and insert. Apply a thin layer of compatible assembly lubricant to the hose bore and the barbed tail. Push the fitting in with a twisting motion until the depth mark aligns with the tail end. Stop at the mark. Do not force past it.
Step 4 – Crimp and verify. Select the correct die set for your hose and fitting size. Crimp in one continuous stroke. After crimping, measure the crimp O.D. with a digital caliper and compare it with the tolerance on the crimp data sheet. Record the value on your quality log. A correct crimp O.D. is the difference between a 10-year assembly and a field failure.
Safety Warnings – Read Before Crimping
- Never mix brands. Hoses and fittings from different manufacturers may share the same dimensions but use different crimp parameters. Always use a matched hose, fitting and crimp data sheet.
- Never seal the ORFS flat seat with tape. The O-ring on the mating male end carries the seal. Thread sealant tape or paste on the seat destroys the seal.
- Keep the flat seat clean and undamaged. A burr or deep scratch on the seat can cut the O-ring during assembly. Protect the seat during handling and storage.
- Do not confuse ORFS with JIC. ORFS seals on a flat face with an O-ring; JIC seals with a 37 degree flare cone. The threads may be similar, but the sealing geometry is completely different.
- Tighten to spec. Use the hex S2 and tighten to the torque value on the data sheet. Over-tightening distorts the seat. Under-tightening causes the O-ring to leak.
- Never reuse a crimped fitting. Once crimped, the ferrule zone is work-hardened. A re-crimp cannot restore the original grip.
