What Is an ORFS Interlock Hydraulic Hose Fitting?

An ORFS interlock hydraulic hose fitting is a hose end whose crimp shell interlocks with the wire layers of a spiral (interlock) hose. Because the shell grips the reinforcement directly, this interlock O-ring face seal fitting is stronger than a standard braided-hose crimp and suits the higher working pressures of spiral hose.

The ORFS end still seals at the flat faces. The mating male end carries an O-ring in its face groove, and torquing the swivel nut compresses the ring between the two flat faces. This O-ring face seal is not interchangeable with JIC 37 degree (SAE J514), ORB (SAE J1926 / ISO 11926) or SAE 45 degree (SAE J513).

1. Cut the hose square with a cut-off saw and clean any debris from the bore.
2. Mark the insertion depth on the hose cover using the data sheet.
3. Strip the cover to the required length so the interlock shell can engage the wire.
4. Crimp to the specified dimension, then verify the crimp OD with a vernier caliper.

Interlock fittings must be crimped with the correct shell and setting for the spiral hose in use. Never compensate a poor interlock crimp by over-torquing the swivel nut.

Connecting the ORFS End

Clean the flat face and check the O-ring before every assembly. Replace the O-ring if it is cut, flattened or hardened, then seat it fully in the groove. Thread the swivel nut on by hand until the faces touch, then torque to the value in the data sheet. The female swivel can be backed off to align the hose without breaking the seal, but never wrap the threads with tape or apply sealant.
