1JO Adapter – JIC Male 74° Cone to SAE O-Ring Boss L Series Stud End Hydraulic Adapter (ISO 11926-3)
The 1JO adapter is a straight adapter with a JIC male 74° cone at the first end and a SAE O-ring boss stud end in the light duty L series at the second end, made to SAE J514 on the cone side and to SAE J1926-3 / ISO 11926-3 on the boss side.
It joins a tube assembly terminated with a JIC 74° cone nut and sleeve to a port machined with a straight thread O-ring boss, so a JIC adapter line enters a boss port without a reducer.
Both ends must match their mating port exactly in thread size, seat geometry and seal type, because the 74° cone seals metal-to-metal while the boss end seals on an elastomeric O-ring. That match at both ends is the precondition for eliminating leakage at the conversion point.
Sealing principle: the E end is a 74° external cone seating metal-to-metal on the mating 74° internal cone, with no elastomer in the sealing path. The F end is a straight thread spigot with an O-ring groove, and the O-ring is compressed against the spotface of the boss port by a lock nut.
Ventajas principales
- Two sealing methods in one part: a metal-to-metal 74° cone at the E end and an elastomeric O-ring boss at the F end.
- The E end runs from 7/16″x20 to 2.1/2″x12 and the F end from 5/16″x24 to 2.1/2″x12, in equal-ended and reducing rows.
- The O-ring code for the boss end is printed against every row of table 2.5, so the seal is specified with the part number.
- Centre hex from 14 mm to 70 mm across flats, so standard wrenches hold the body during assembly.
- Carbon steel with trivalent chromium zinc plating as standard; 304 or 316 stainless steel available for corrosive service.
- Every batch checked against the drawing with thread gauges before packing.
1. What a 1JO Adapter Does
A 1JO adapter converts between two connection families: a JIC 74° cone male stud at the first end and a SAE O-ring boss stud end at the second.
It brings a JIC 74° cone tube line into a straight thread O-ring boss port without changing direction. Equal-ended rows such as 1JO-06 carry the same size at both ends, and reducing rows such as 1JO-06-10 carry a smaller cone end and a larger boss end, as printed in the E and F columns of table 2.5.
Because the ends seal by different principles, check the two seats separately: a nicked cone leaks whatever torque is applied afterwards, and a boss O-ring that has hardened or been cut leaks at first pressure. As an O-ring adapter, this part reseals at the boss end each time the joint is remade.
2. 1JO Specifications

Read each size code against its own thread list in the chart below the table.
2.3 Construction and Materials
The body is machined from bar stock on CNC lathes, with the 74° cone, the boss thread, the O-ring groove and the hex turned so that the cone and the boss thread stay concentric.
- Body material: carbon steel as standard; 304 or 316 stainless steel on request; brass for selected sizes.
- Plating and finish: trivalent chromium zinc plating (Cr3+) as standard; zinc-nickel plating available. Corrosion performance is confirmed per order.
- Seal material options: NBR, FKM and EPDM O-rings for the boss groove. The 74° cone joint carries no elastomer.
- Machining process: bar-stock turning, cone checked against the drawing, boss thread produced to the port standard, groove gauged, O-ring fitted and checked before packing.
- Hex feature: a single centre hex (S1) from 14 mm to 70 mm across flats, and no bulkhead feature.
2.4 Pressure and Temperature
Working pressure for a 1JO adapter is not set by the series code. It is governed by the thread size, the wall thickness of the stud and the mating tube, the sealing method at each end and the material selected, and it is confirmed per order by HENGHUA engineering for those conditions.
Temperature is a material fact and not a performance claim. The boss O-ring is available in NBR at approximately -30°C to +100°C, FKM (Viton-type) at approximately -20°C to +200°C, and EPDM at approximately -40°C to +120°C. Carbon steel with zinc plating suits general hydraulic service; specify 304 or 316 stainless steel for corrosive or offshore environments.

What each column means
- PART NO. – the HENGHUA part number: the prefix
1JOplus one size code for an equal-ended part, or two codes separated by a dash for a reducing part. - E – the thread of connection 1, the JIC 74° cone end, for example
9/16"X18. - F – the thread of connection 2, the SAE O-ring boss end, for example
7/8"X14. When E and F carry the same thread the part is equal-ended. - O-RING F END – the O-ring code for the boss end, for example
O910. It follows the F thread and not the E thread, so a reducing row can take a different O-ring from the equal-ended part at the same E size. Every row has this column filled, and the O-ring is delivered with the stud. - A – the length from the end of the 74° cone to the hex face on that side, in millimetres; it follows the E thread.
- B – the length from the end of the boss spigot to the hex face on that side, in millimetres; it follows the F thread.
- L – the overall length from cone end to boss end, in millimetres.
- S1 – the hex across flats of the body, in millimetres, as printed for each row.
Thread size and dash chart
Because this is a cross standard adapter, one dash code stands for a different thread on each end. The printed values are:
| Size code | E end (JIC 74° cone) | F end (SAE O-ring boss) | O-ring |
|---|---|---|---|
| 02 | – | 5/16″x24 | O902 |
| 03 | – | 3/8″x24 | O903 |
| 04 | 7/16″x20 | 7/16″x20 | O904 |
| 05 | 1/2″x20 | 1/2″x20 | O905 |
| 06 | 9/16″x18 | 9/16″x18 | O906 |
| 08 | 3/4″x16 | 3/4″x16 | O908 |
| 10 | 7/8″x14 | 7/8″x14 | O910 |
| 12 | 1.1/16″x12 | 1.1/16″x12 | O912 |
| 14 | 1.3/16″x12 | 1.3/16″x12 | O914 |
| 16 | 1.5/16″x12 | 1.5/16″x12 | O916 |
| 20 | 1.5/8″x12 | 1.5/8″x12 | O920 |
| 24 | 1.7/8″x12 | 1.7/8″x12 | O924 |
| 32 | 2.1/2″x12 | 2.1/2″x12 | O932 |
The E end starts at size 04, so codes 02 and 03 appear on the F end only.
Nut and sleeve are ordered separately. As printed under the table, the nut and sleeve are not included with the stud: use nut NB200 with sleeve NB500 for metric tube, and nut NB200 with sleeve NB300 for inch tube. A lock nut is also required to hold this SAE O-ring boss adapter end in the port.
3. How to Read a 1JO Part Number
A 1JO adapter part number has two elements: the series prefix and one or two size codes, with no sealing suffix.
The prefix 1JO identifies the family: a straight JIC 74 degree cone adapter end on one side and a SAE O-ring boss stud end, light duty L series, on the other. A different prefix identifies a different pair of ends, such as a JIC cone to NPT, BSPT or a metric male 60° seat.
The first size code is connection 1, the E column and the cone end. The second size code, when present, is connection 2, the F column and the boss end. One code alone means both ends carry the same size code.
Worked example: 1JO-06-10.
1JO– straight JIC 74° cone male to SAE O-ring boss stud end, L series.06– connection 1 is the 9/16″x18 JIC 74° cone end.10– connection 2 is the 7/8″x14 SAE O-ring boss end.- From the table: O-ring code O910, A is 14.1 mm, B is 12.7 mm, L is 37 mm and S1 is 27 mm.
A buyer ordering 1JO-06-10 receives a straight stud with a smaller cone end and a larger boss end, and must order the O-ring O910 with it.
4. Installation and Fitment
The two ends are assembled differently, and HENGHUA does not print a single torque figure for the series, because the correct tightening depends on the nut and sleeve at the cone end, the port material at the boss end, the tube material and the size. Confirm the figures with HENGHUA engineering per order.
74° cone end: bring the tube square to the stud, run the nut up by hand until it is snug, then tighten in stages. Never use an extension bar or an impact tool, and replace a cone that has been overtightened.
SAE O-ring boss end: check the O-ring for cuts, fit it fully into the groove without twisting, insert the spigot into the port and run the lock nut up by hand, then tighten it in stages so the O-ring compresses evenly against the spotface. Do not use thread tape or sealant on the boss thread, because the straight thread is not the sealing element.
Preparation: a light oil on both threads lets each nut run up without distorting the cone or the O-ring, and both ends are capped before storage. An O-ring adapter of this series can be reused whenever the cone and the groove are undamaged, with a new O-ring at the boss end; the nut, the sleeve and the lock nut are the wear items.
Common fitment errors and symptoms:
- Forcing a 37° flare nut onto the 74° cone end. Symptom: the joint weeps at first pressure and the seat angles differ visibly.
- Reusing a hardened boss O-ring. Symptom: a leak at first pressure.
- Reading a size code against the wrong end. Symptom: the boss end will not enter the port.
- Leaving out the lock nut. Symptom: the stud backs out under pressure or vibration.
Six-step assembly
- Confirm the part number and the E size, the F size and the O-ring code against the line list.
- Inspect the 74° cone and the boss groove for nicks, corrosion and overtightening marks.
- Clean the cone, the groove and both threads with a lint-free cloth.
- Fit the O-ring into the boss groove without twisting, then insert the spigot into the port.
- Fit the nut and sleeve to the tube, bring the tube square to the cone, then tighten both ends in stages.
- Pressurise the circuit, check both ends for weeping, and re-check after the first thermal cycle.
5. Applications and Industries
Application tags for this series: hydraulic systems, water jetting, oil and gas, industrial equipment, construction machinery, agriculture, marine, material handling. A hydraulic adapter in this series is specified by its thread pair rather than by industry.
Cross-standard equipment integration. A machine with SAE J1926-1 boss ports is often joined to a JIC adapter line built with 74° cone tube ends, and reducing rows such as 1JO-08-12 step between a smaller tube run and a larger port.
Repair and replacement. Maintenance crews fit a 1JO adapter when a port has been re-machined to a boss thread or a damaged cone end has to be replaced on site, and the series covers equal-ended and reducing rows, so the replacement is drawn from stock.
Test benches and OEM lines. Test rigs use the same part because the boss end reseals after each remake, and production lines receive it to a drawing-based specification with the plating, material and O-ring compound fixed.
6. Replacement and Cross-Reference Guide
Cross-reference for a hydraulic adapter is organised by standard and sealing method, never by brand. Two fittings interchange only if the standard, the thread size at each end, the sealing method and the seal type all match.
A 1JO adapter in this series is a cross standard adapter: a JIC 74 degree cone adapter end to SAE J514 on one side and a SAE O-ring boss adapter stud end to SAE J1926-3 / ISO 11926-3 on the other. A JIC adapter with a 37° flare is not a substitute, because it seals on a narrower flare face. The boss end is not interchangeable with an ORFS end, which seals a flat face against an O-ring under SAE J1453, or with a metric stud end to ISO 6149.
To identify the correct replacement, measure three things at each end.
- Thread. Measure the outside diameter and the pitch: a 7/16″x20 thread measures about 11.1 mm outside diameter and a 9/16″x18 thread about 14.3 mm. Record diameter and pitch together, because the same diameter appears with a different pitch in another family.
- Seat or groove. At the cone end, check for a 74° cone and not a 37° flare. At the boss end, check for a straight thread with an O-ring groove near the nose.
- Seal type. The O-ring sits at the boss end only, and its code is printed in the O-RING F END column for the row.
Where the port standard is neither SAE J514 nor SAE J1926-3, a different cross standard adapter is the correct part rather than a forced thread; send the measurements with the part number and the O-ring code, and HENGHUA matches the replacement to table 2.5.
7. Ordering, Packaging and Delivery
To order, give the following information:
- Series code:
1JO. - Full part number, for example 1JO-06-10, taken from table 2.5.
- Thread size at the cone end from the E column, and thread size at the boss end from the F column.
- O-ring code from the O-RING F END column, and the seal material required: NBR, FKM or EPDM.
- Nut and sleeve requirement for the tube, and the lock nut requirement for the boss port, because both are ordered separately.
- Body material and plating: carbon steel with trivalent chromium zinc plating, zinc-nickel plating, or 304 or 316 stainless steel.
- Quantity, destination and packing format.
Packaging formats: bulk cartons for line-side consumption, small boxes for distributor shelves and labelled bags for service kits, each labelled with the part number, the two thread sizes, the O-ring code and the quantity. Sample orders: validation samples and first-article parts are available for OEM programmes, including specials made to a drawing.
Lead time is confirmed per order, because it depends on size, material, plating and quantity. As a hydraulic adapter manufacturer and hydraulic adapter supplier, HENGHUA can quote the 1JO adapter with its boss O-ring as one matched item.
8. FAQ
What is the difference between JIC 37° flare and ORFS, and which should I use?
A JIC 37° flare joint seals metal-to-metal on a 37° conical flare face under SAE J514. An ORFS joint seals a flat face against an elastomeric O-ring under SAE J1453. Choose the family that matches the port on the equipment, because the two are not interchangeable. The 1JO series is on neither seat at its first end, because that end is a 74° cone.
Can NPT and BSPT be interchanged?
No. NPT is a 60° taper pipe thread under ANSI/ASME B1.20.1, and BSPT is a 55° taper pipe thread under ISO 7-1. The thread form, the angle and the pitch differ, so the two will not seal even though some sizes start by hand. Use the thread the port is machined to, and order a cross standard adapter when the two sides differ.
How do I identify the correct 1JO size?
Measure the thread outside diameter and the pitch at each end, then read the smaller measurement against the E column and the other against the F column of table 2.5. Note which end carries the cone, because one dash code stands for a different thread on each side of this cross standard adapter.
What seal material should I select for my fluid and temperature?
For general mineral hydraulic oil within -30°C to +100°C, NBR is the usual choice. For higher temperatures up to approximately +200°C, or where the fluid attacks NBR, choose FKM (Viton-type). For water, water-glycol and many water-based fluids, EPDM is the option, at approximately -40°C to +120°C. The choice applies to the boss end of this O-ring adapter.
How is the working pressure of this adapter determined?
Working pressure is not fixed by the series code. It is governed by the thread size, the wall thickness of the stud and the tube, the sealing method at each end and the material selected, and it is confirmed per order by HENGHUA engineering for the intended circuit.
What is the minimum order quantity and can I get samples?
Minimum order quantity depends on the size code, the material and the plating, so it is confirmed with the quotation rather than published as one series figure. Samples are available for OEM and distributor evaluation, including specials to a drawing.
Is the O-ring included with the 1JO adapter?
Yes. The O-ring for the boss end is supplied with the stud, in the compound selected at order. The O-RING F END column of table 2.5 gives the code for each row, and the code follows the F thread, so a reducing part can take a different O-ring from the equal-ended part at the same E size. Replacement O-rings are available separately.
Send your requirement to HENGHUA
Send the part number, the E and F thread sizes, the O-ring code and compound, the nut, sleeve and lock nut requirement, and the quantity. HENGHUA confirms the match to the printed table, the seal options and the delivery schedule, and quotes the 1JO adapter that fits your circuit.
