1B Adapter: BSP Male Double Use for 60 Degree Seat or Bonded Seal

The 1B adapter is a BSP male to BSP male hydraulic adapter with a double use stud end. The same stud end seals either on a 60 degree cone seat or on a flat port face with a bonded seal washer, so one part number covers both sealing methods used in British Standard Pipe porting. The threads are BSPP, also called G thread, to ISO 228-1, with a 60 degree thread form and a parallel non-tapered profile. HENGHUA produces the series in carbon steel with zinc plating, in 304 and 316 stainless steel, and in brass.
1. What a 1B Adapter Does
The adapter joins two BSPP ports or a BSPP port and a BSPP hose end on the same centre line. Both connections are male, so the adapter is a straight connector rather than a reducer or an elbow. The double use feature is the reason the series exists: the port end is machined with a 60 degree internal cone and a flat annular face, so the installer can seal on the cone with the mating nipple or seal on the flat face with a bonded seal washer. No other part number change is required when the sealing method changes.
The design intent is field flexibility. Maintenance teams that stock BSPP fittings often deal with ports built to different sealing philosophies on the same machine. A double use stud end lets one stocked item serve both. The opposite end is a plain BSP male thread used with the mating hose end or port as supplied.
2. Specifications
2.1 Connection 1
Connection 1 is the double use BSP male stud end.
- Thread form: BSPP (G thread) to ISO 228-1, parallel, 55 degree thread angle, designated by size and threads per inch, for example G1/4″X19.
- Port end geometry: 60 degree internal cone seat combined with a flat face for a bonded seal washer.
- Sealing options: 60 degree cone seat, or bonded seal washer on the flat face.
- Standard sizes in the series: G1/8″X28 through G3″X11.
2.2 Connection 2
Connection 2 is the BSP male end, produced with the same thread family and the same 55 degree form.
- Thread form: BSPP (G thread) to ISO 228-1, parallel.
- Sealing at this end: by the mating component, using its own seat, washer or elastomer seal as designed.
- Standard sizes in the series: G1/8″X28 through G3″X11.
- Configuration: straight, so both connections share one axis and the hex across flats is centred between them.
2.3 Construction and Materials
- Carbon steel body with zinc plating as the standard finish.
- Trivalent chromium zinc (Cr3+) plating and zinc-nickel plating as available plating options.
- 304 stainless steel and 316 stainless steel bodies for corrosive or marine service.
- Brass bodies where a non-ferrous material is required.
- Sealing components supplied to suit the port: bonded seal washer in NBR, FKM or EPDM as selected, or the mating 60 degree cone of the hose end.
- Threads are machined, not rolled, on sizes where the stud end geometry requires it, and all sealing faces are machined to the drawing.
2.4 Pressure and Temperature
Working pressure is not a single figure for the whole series. It is governed by the size of the connection, the wall thickness of the body and the sealing method used. HENGHUA engineering confirms the working pressure for each size and sealing combination on the order before production.
Temperature limits follow the selected elastomer:
- NBR: approximately -30 C to +100 C.
- FKM: approximately -20 C to +200 C.
- EPDM: approximately -40 C to +120 C.
Metal parts carry their own limits, and the practical limit of the assembly is the lower of the metal and elastomer figures.

Chart note: E is the double use BSP male stud end, F is the opposite BSP male end. A, B and L are lengths in millimetres as defined on the series drawing, and S1 is the hex across flats. Every 1B adapter in the range is supplied to the dimensions above; the two cells marked [VERIFY WITH SUPPLIER] sit at the largest end of the size range where the chart could not be resolved with certainty and must be confirmed on the drawing.
3. How to Read a 1B Part Number
The part number carries the two thread sizes in order.
- 1B is the series code: BSP male double use for 60 degree seat or bonded seal.
- The first number pair is the E thread, the double use stud end.
- Digits after the first pair, where present, give the F thread, the opposite BSP male end.
- No suffix means both ends take the same size.
Examples:
- 1B-08: both ends G1/2″X14.
- 1B-08-12: E end G1/2″X14, F end G3/4″X14.
- 1B-24-32: E end G1.1/2″X11, F end G2″X11.
4. Installation and Fitment
- Confirm the port sealing method before assembly: 60 degree cone or flat face with a bonded seal washer. The same adapter serves both, but the mating component differs.
- Clean the port threads and the flat face or cone. A bonded seal washer seats on the flat face only, so any burr or paint on that face prevents sealing.
- Fit the bonded seal washer over the stud end when the flat face method is used. Confirm the washer bore matches the thread size.
- Lubricate the threads lightly with a hydraulic-system-compatible compound and start the stud end by hand.
- Tighten with a wrench on the hex, not on the body or the hose, to the torque value that suits the thread size and the port material.
- Hold the adapter while tightening the second connection so the first joint is not disturbed.
- Pressurise the circuit and check both joints for weeping before returning the machine to service.
5. Applications and Industries
- Construction and earthmoving equipment with British Standard Pipe porting.
- Agricultural and forestry machinery.
- Material handling and lifting equipment.
- Mining and quarry plant hydraulic circuits.
- Marine and offshore deck machinery.
- Hydraulic power units and test benches.
- Machine tools and industrial power packs.
- Repair and service workshops that maintain mixed-fleet equipment.
6. Replacement and Cross-Reference Guide
Cross-reference by standard, thread and sealing method, not by competitor part numbers.
| Port or mating condition | Series to select | Motivo |
|---|---|---|
| BSPP port, 60 degree cone seat available | 1B | double use stud end seals on the cone |
| BSPP port, flat face with bonded seal washer | 1B | the same stud end seals on the flat face |
| BSPP port where the washer must stay captive on the adapter | 1B-WD | captive seal version holds the washer in place |
| BSPP port, O-ring seal required | 1BG | O-ring configuration for the port end |
| Metric port to ISO 6149-3, light duty, L series | 1BH | metric male stud end with O-ring |
| Mating hose end is JIC 37 degree flare to SAE J514 | 1BJ | 74 degree cone male end for JIC flared tube ends |
When this adapter is being replaced, note the sealing method in use on the machine before ordering. A 60 degree seat port and a bonded seal port look alike from the outside, and the washer is often the only visible difference.
7. Ordering, Packaging and Delivery
Provide the following when ordering:
- Series and part number, for example 1B-08-12.
- Quantity.
- Body material: carbon steel, 304 stainless, 316 stainless or brass.
- Plating option: standard zinc, trivalent chromium zinc (Cr3+) or zinc-nickel.
- Sealing components if required with the adapter, and their elastomer: NBR, FKM or EPDM.
- Any drawing or marking requirement, including private label.
Adapters are packed in bulk cartons, then on pallets or in crates for export. Packaging can be labelled to the buyer’s specification. Delivery is confirmed on the order acknowledgement, and the working pressure for the ordered size and sealing method is confirmed by HENGHUA engineering at the same time.
8. FAQ
What is a 1B adapter used for? It joins two BSPP connections in a hydraulic circuit where the port end must seal either on a 60 degree cone seat or on a flat face with a bonded seal washer. It is a straight male to male connector.
How does this adapter differ from the 1B-WD version? Both use the same double use stud end. The 1B-WD version adds a captive seal, so the bonded seal washer is held on the adapter and cannot be lost or fitted incorrectly during service.
Which sealing method should be used, the 60 degree cone or the bonded seal? Follow the port design. If the port is machined with a 60 degree cone and the mating nipple has a matching cone, seal on the cone. If the port presents a flat face, use a bonded seal washer on the flat face.
What threads does this adapter use? BSPP, also called G thread, to ISO 228-1. The thread is parallel with a 55 degree thread form, and the part number states the size and the threads per inch, for example G1/2″X14.
What is the working pressure? It depends on the size, the wall thickness of the body and the sealing method. HENGHUA engineering confirms the working pressure for each ordered size and sealing combination on the order.
Which materials are available? Carbon steel with zinc plating is standard. Trivalent chromium zinc and zinc-nickel plating are available, and the body can also be supplied in 304 stainless steel, 316 stainless steel or brass.
What temperature range does it cover? The metal body is not the limiting item. The elastomer sets the range: NBR approximately -30 C to +100 C, FKM approximately -20 C to +200 C and EPDM approximately -40 C to +120 C.
Can it be used with a metric port? No. Use the 1BH adapter, which has a metric male L series stud end to ISO 6149-3, when the port is metric. Use the 1BJ adapter when the mating hose end is a JIC 37 degree flare to SAE J514.
