Different included angles mean different contact diameters and a different seat position along the axis. A 74° male in a 60° female port makes contact on an edge instead of a face; a 37° flare against a 74° seat touches on a ring and will not hold pressure at temperature. Step-by-Step Assembly
- Confirm the mating seats are 74° cone. Do not accept “close enough” — measure the angle if the part is unmarked.
- Clean the cone faces. Any swarf or paint film becomes the sealing surface, and the joint will leak.
- Lubricate the threads lightly; never apply sealant to the cone.
- Start both threads by hand to avoid cross-threading the fine metric pitch.
