How the 74 Degree Cone Seat Seals
This fitting carries a 74 degree inner cone seat at the threaded end. When the UNF female thread is tightened onto a mating JIC male connector, the male 74 degree outer cone (37 degree flare) seats into this cone and the metal-to-metal contact carries the seal. The thread itself only positions and tightens the connection.
This is the classic American sealing philosophy: a precision cone joint that tolerates repeated assembly and disassembly. There is no O-ring and no thread sealant on the cone. Why the Double Hexagon
The double hexagon body is the practical answer to a real workshop problem: ports in tight spaces. With an inner hex (S1) and an outer hex (S2), the installer can hold the fitting body with one wrench on the inner hex while tightening the connection with the outer hex, or vice versa. Guide de montage : quatre étapes pour un montage sûr du tuyau
Follow this process for every crimped assembly. It applies to every JIC female 74 degree cone fitting size from dash -04 to -20. Skipping one step is the most common cause of early fitting failure.

Notez la valeur dans votre registre de qualité. Un diamètre extérieur de sertissage correct fait toute la différence entre un assemblage qui durera 10 ans et une défaillance sur le terrain.
Consignes de sécurité – À lire avant de procéder au sertissage
- Ne mélangez jamais les marques. Les flexibles et les raccords de différents fabricants peuvent présenter les mêmes dimensions, mais utiliser des paramètres de sertissage différents. Veillez à toujours utiliser un ensemble flexible, raccord et fiche technique de sertissage compatibles.
- Never seal the 74 degree cone with tape. The cone seat seals by metal-to-metal 37 degree flare contact. Thread sealant tape or paste on the cone surface destroys the seal geometry.
- Do not confuse JIC with SAE O-ring boss (ORB). JIC seals at the 37 degree flare cone. ORB seals with an O-ring at the thread root. Never substitute one for the other.
- Use both hexes when installing. Hold the inner hex S1 with a backup wrench while tightening the outer hex S2. This protects the barbed tail from twisting stress.
- Serrer conformément aux spécifications. Tighten to the torque value on the data sheet. Over-tightening distorts the cone seat. Under-tightening causes vibration loosening.
- Never reuse a crimped fitting. Once crimped, the ferrule zone is work-hardened. A re-crimp cannot restore the original grip.
