1JT9-SP Adapter – 90° Elbow JIC Male 74° Cone to BSPT Male Hydraulic Adapter

1. What a 1JT9-SP Adapter Does
A 1JT9-SP adapter is a 90° elbow male adapter with two different male ends. The first leg, marked E on the drawing, is a JIC 74° cone male stud end made to SAE J514. The second leg, marked F, is a BSPT male taper pipe thread made to ISO 7-1. The part turns the flow path through 90° and changes the connection standard at the same time.
The two thread axes are therefore at 90° to each other: one axis runs into the equipment port and the other runs along the tube or hose. Dimension A is the leg dimension printed for connection 1 and dimension B is the leg dimension printed for connection 2, both in millimetres on the series drawing. 2.3 Construction and Materials

3. How to Read a 1JT9-SP Part Number
A 1JT9-SP part number has three elements: the series prefix, one or two size codes, and the sealing suffix.
The prefix 1JT9 identifies the geometry: a 90° elbow with a JIC 74° cone male end and a BSPT male end. The 9 marks the 90° elbow form; a 4 in the same position marks the 45° elbow form, and no digit marks the straight stud form. 4. Installation and Fitment
A 74° cone joint is assembled by hand first and then tightened to seat the cone. HENGHUA does not print a single torque figure for the series, because the correct tightening depends on the nut and sleeve fitted, the tube material and the wall thickness. Follow the nut supplier’s recommendation, or confirm the tightening figure with HENGHUA engineering per order. Bring the nut up by hand until it is snug against the cone, then tighten in stages, and never use a pipe extension or an impact tool on a cone joint.
Taper pipe end: a BSPT joint seals on the thread flanks under ISO 7-1, so the male thread needs a compatible thread sealant on the first few threads. Run the pipe end in by hand to check that it starts squarely, then tighten it until it is seated. Never back the pipe end out to adjust the elbow orientation, because a taper thread that has been backed off will weep along the thread. Set the orientation in one pass and stop with the elbow leg pointing where the tube run needs it.
Cone seat and thread preparation: keep the stud cone and the mating female cone clean and free of nicks, wipe the cone with a lint-free cloth, and inspect it under good light before assembly. JIC 74° cone threads are not the sealing element, so do not wrap them with thread tape or use sealant as a leak cure; a light oil on the threads lets the nut run up smoothly.
Contamination and alignment: cap open ends before storage and before the line returns to service, because debris at the cone seat scores the faces and produces a seep that no further tightening removes. Bring the tube squarely to the JIC end before starting the nut. On an elbow body, seat the pipe end first and then make up the cone end, so the tube line is not loaded while the body is being rotated.
Reuse policy: the body with an undamaged cone and a clean pipe thread can be reused. The nut and sleeve are the wear items, and the assembly is replaced whenever a cone shows galling or a bright polished band.
Common fitment errors and their symptoms:
- Mixing a 37° flare with a 74° cone seat. Symptom: the nut runs up but the joint weeps at first pressure, and the two seat angles are visibly different under inspection.
- Forcing an NPT male into a BSPT port, or the reverse. Symptom: the thread starts by hand at some sizes and then binds, and the joint weeps because the thread forms and the 60° or 55° flank angles differ.
Six-step assembly
- Confirm the part number against the line list, and check that the JIC thread and the BSPT thread each match their mating port.
- Inspect the cone and the mating seat for nicks, corrosion and previous overtightening marks, and inspect the pipe thread for damage.
- Clean the cone and the threads with a lint-free cloth and a compatible cleaning fluid.
- Apply thread sealant to the BSPT male thread, run the pipe end in by hand, then tighten it in one pass with the elbow leg aligned to the run.
- Fit the nut and sleeve to the tube, bring the tube square to the JIC end by hand, then tighten the nut in stages to the recommended figure without an extension bar.
- Pressurise the circuit, check both ends for weeping, and re-check the tightness after the first thermal cycle.

What is the difference between JIC 37° flare and ORFS, and which should I use?
A JIC 37° flare joint seals metal-to-metal on a 37° conical flare face under SAE J514. An ORFS joint seals a flat face against an elastomeric O-ring under SAE J1453. Choose the family that matches the port already on the equipment, because the two are not interchangeable. The 1JT9-SP adapter is on the JIC 74° cone side of SAE J514 at its first end, so confirm the seat angle before ordering.
Can NPT and BSPT be interchanged?
No. NPT is a 60° taper pipe thread under ANSI/ASME B1.20.1, and BSPT is a 55° taper pipe thread under ISO 7-1.
