3. How to Read a 1BN Adapter Part Number<\/h2>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

The code has three blocks. 1BN<\/code> is the series: BSP male 60\u00b0 cone or bonded seal, with an NPT male end. The first number after the prefix is the BSPP (G) size, counted in sixteenths of an inch. The second number, where present, is the NPT nominal size in sixteenths of an inch. When the second number is absent, both ends are the same nominal size.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

Preparation decides the result on this series because the two ends need different handling. Clean both ports, remove old sealant and tape residue, and confirm that the BSPP port face is unmarked if a bonded washer is to be used, because a washer cannot bridge a scored or dented face. Blow out the line so no swarf reaches the cone seat.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

Assemble the taper end first so the body can still be rotated. Apply thread sealant or tape to the NPT end only, never to the 60\u00b0 cone seat or the bonded washer face, because those joints seal on the cone or the face and not on the thread flanks. Measure these three things. First, the thread: on the BSPP side measure the outside diameter and count the threads per inch and match the G column, such as G3\/4″X14. On the taper side measure the outside diameter across the thread and check the taper with a thread gauge, because NPT and BSPT look similar but have different flank angles and pitches and must not be mixed. Second, the seat: look inside the BSPP port. A 60\u00b0 cone means the stud seals on the cone; a flat face means it seals on a bonded washer. BSPT (R, Rc, Rp thread, ISO 7-1) is a taper thread where pressure tightness is made on the threads and a sealant is required.
