1BG Adapter: BSP Male Double Use with BSP Male O-Ring

BSP male double use for 60 degree seat or bonded seal O-ring hydraulic adapter 1BG specification and dimension chart

The 1BG adapter is a BSP male to BSP male hydraulic adapter that puts a double use stud end on one side and an O-ring sealed BSP male end on the other. The stud end seals either on a 60 degree cone seat or on a flat face with a bonded seal washer. The O-ring end seats an elastomer ring at the face of the thread so the joint seals on the face rather than on the thread flanks. Threads are BSPP, also called G thread, to ISO 228-1. HENGHUA supplies the range in carbon steel with zinc plating, in 304 and 316 stainless steel, and in brass.

1. What a 1BG Adapter Does

The adapter connects two BSPP points on one axis. The O-ring end is the reason this version exists: an elastomer ring in a machined seat at the mouth of the thread seals against the mating face, which tolerates small face imperfections better than a metal to metal cone and does not depend on thread interference for tightness. The double use stud end on the E side keeps the same flexibility as the rest of the family, sealing on a 60 degree internal cone or on a flat annular face with a bonded seal washer.

Together the two ends cover the common British Standard Pipe porting found on imported machinery, where one port is machined for a seat and another for a face seal.

2. Specifications

2.1 Connection 1

Connection 1 is the double use BSP male stud end.

  • Thread form: BSPP (G thread) to ISO 228-1, parallel, 55 degree thread form, stated as size and threads per inch, for example G3/8″X19.
  • Port end geometry: 60 degree internal cone seat combined with a flat face for a bonded seal washer.
  • Sealing options: 60 degree cone seat or bonded seal washer on the flat face.
  • Sizes in the series: G1/8″X28 through G1.1/2″X11.

2.2 Connection 2

Connection 2 is the BSP male O-ring end.

  • Thread form: BSPP (G thread) to ISO 228-1, parallel.
  • Sealing method: elastomer O-ring seated at the face of the thread, identified in the chart by the O-ring code for the size, for example O115 for G1/2″X14.
  • O-ring material: NBR, FKM or EPDM, selected to the order.
  • Configuration: straight, both connections on one axis.

2.3 Construction and Materials

  • Carbon steel body with zinc plating as standard.
  • Trivalent chromium zinc (Cr3+) plating and zinc-nickel plating as available options.
  • 304 stainless steel and 316 stainless steel for corrosive and marine duty.
  • Brass bodies where a non-ferrous part is required.
  • O-rings in NBR, FKM or EPDM to suit the circuit and the temperature.
  • The O-ring seat is machined to the drawing so the ring sits square and is not pinched on assembly.

2.4 Pressure and Temperature

Working pressure is not one figure for the whole series. It follows the connection size, the wall thickness of the body and the sealing method, and HENGHUA engineering confirms the working pressure for each ordered size and seal combination on the order.

Temperature limits follow the elastomer:

  • NBR: approximately -30 C to +100 C.
  • FKM: approximately -20 C to +200 C.
  • EPDM: approximately -40 C to +120 C.

Metal parts have their own limits and the assembly is governed by the lower of the two.

Chart note: E is the double use BSP male stud end, F is the BSP male O-ring end, A, B and L are lengths in millimetres as defined on the series drawing, S1 is the hex across flats, and the O-ring code names the ring that fits the F end. Every 1BG adapter in the range is supplied to these dimensions.

3. How to Read a 1BG Part Number

  • 1BG is the series code: BSP male double use for 60 degree seat or bonded seal, with an O-ring end.
  • The first number pair is the E thread, the double use stud end.
  • Where a second number pair appears, it is the F thread, the O-ring end.
  • Where both pairs are equal, the part has the same size at both ends, as in 1BG-08.

Examples:

  • 1BG-08: E end G1/2″X14, F end G1/2″X14 with O-ring O115.
  • 1BG-08-12: E end G1/2″X14, F end G3/4″X14 with O-ring O119.
  • 1BG-16-12: E end G1″X11, F end G3/4″X14 with O-ring O119.

4. Installation and Fitment

  1. Inspect the O-ring before fitting. A ring that has hardened, swollen or been cut must be replaced, not reused.
  2. Check that the O-ring seat is clean and free of swarf, paint or old sealant. The ring must sit flat in the seat.
  3. Confirm the sealing method at the E end: 60 degree cone, or flat face with a bonded seal washer.
  4. Lubricate the threads and the O-ring lightly with a hydraulic-system-compatible compound so the ring is not rolled out of its seat during tightening.
  5. Start both ends by hand before applying a wrench.
  6. Tighten on the hex only, to the torque that suits the thread size and the port material. Do not over-tighten, because excess torque cuts the ring.
  7. Hold the adapter body while tightening the opposing connection so the first joint stays undisturbed.
  8. Pressurise the circuit and check both joints before the machine is returned to service.

5. Applications and Industries

  • Construction and earthmoving machinery with face sealed BSPP ports.
  • Agricultural and forestry equipment.
  • Material handling, lifting and access plant.
  • Mining and quarry circuits where joints are opened frequently.
  • Marine and offshore deck machinery.
  • Hydraulic power units, test benches and press installations.
  • Industrial machine tools and power packs.
  • Workshop repair and hose replacement services.

6. Replacement and Cross-Reference Guide

Cross-reference by standard, thread and sealing method only.

Port or mating condition Series to select Reason
BSPP port, 60 degree cone or bonded seal face, plain end at the other side 1B standard double use body
BSPP port where the seal washer must be captive on the adapter 1B-WD captive seal retains the washer
BSPP port requiring an O-ring face seal 1BG O-ring seat at the thread face, which is this series
Metric port to ISO 6149-3, light duty, L series 1BH metric male O-ring stud end
Mating hose end is JIC 37 degree flare to SAE J514 1BJ 74 degree cone male end
Tapered BSPT port to ISO 7-1 taper thread series BSPT seals on the thread rather than on a face

When replacing an O-ring sealed adapter, record the O-ring code stamped or printed on the part so the correct ring size and elastomer can be reordered. A ring from a different size will fit loosely and leak.

7. Ordering, Packaging and Delivery

State the following when ordering:

  • Part number, for example 1BG-08-12.
  • Quantity.
  • Body material: carbon steel, 304 stainless, 316 stainless or brass.
  • Plating option: standard zinc, trivalent chromium zinc (Cr3+) or zinc-nickel.
  • O-ring elastomer: NBR, FKM or EPDM.
  • Spare O-rings if required, quoting the O-ring code from the chart.
  • Drawing, marking or private label requirements.

Adapters are packed in bulk cartons and then on pallets or in export crates, and packaging can be labelled to the buyer’s specification. Delivery is confirmed on the order acknowledgement, together with the working pressure that HENGHUA engineering confirms for the ordered size and seal combination.

8. FAQ

What is a 1BG adapter? It is a straight BSP male to BSP male adapter with a double use stud end at one side that seals on a 60 degree cone or a bonded seal face, and an O-ring sealed BSP male end at the other side.

How does this adapter differ from the 1B version? The E end is identical. The F end seals with an O-ring seated at the mouth of the thread instead of relying on a loose washer or a cone seat.

Which O-ring does the F end use? The chart gives an O-ring code for each F thread size, such as O115 for G1/2″X14. Quote that code, and state the elastomer required, when ordering spare rings.

What threads does this adapter use? Both connections are BSPP (G thread) to ISO 228-1: parallel threads with a 55 degree thread form, stated as size and threads per inch, for example G1″X11.

What is the working pressure? It depends on the connection size, the body wall thickness and the sealing method. HENGHUA engineering confirms the figure for each ordered size and seal combination.

Which O-ring materials are available? NBR for general hydraulic oil service, FKM for higher temperatures and EPDM where the circuit requires it. Approximate service ranges are NBR -30 C to +100 C, FKM -20 C to +200 C and EPDM -40 C to +120 C.

Which body materials are available? Carbon steel with zinc plating as standard, with trivalent chromium zinc and zinc-nickel plating options, and bodies in 304 stainless steel, 316 stainless steel or brass.

Can the O-ring end be used on a metric port? No. Use the 1BH adapter for metric ports to ISO 6149-3, or the 1BJ adapter where the mating end is a JIC 37 degree flare to SAE J514.
