1. What a 1B9 Adapter Does

2.1 Connection 1 – BSP male, 60° cone seat (port E)
Port E is a BSPP male stud end with a 60° cone seat, available from G1/8″x28 up to G2″x11. The stud end screws into a BSPP port where the seal is made on the 60° cone or on a flat face with a bonded seal washer.
Equal-size part numbers carry the same thread on both ends, such as 1B9-08 with G1/2″x14 at E and F. Reduced part numbers carry two different sizes, such as 1B9-08-12 with G1/2″x14 at E and G3/4″x14 at F.
2.2 Connection 2 – BSP male, 60° cone seat (port F)
Port F mirrors port E: a BSPP male stud end with a 60° cone seat, from G1/8″x28 to G2″x11. It follows the same ISO 228-1 thread form and the same ISO 1179 seat geometry, so the same installation and sealing rules apply at both ends.

3. How to Read a 1B9 Part Number
A 1B9 part number has three parts: the series prefix, the size code, and an optional second size code.
- 1 – the BSP male family in the British Adapters range, where the stud end uses the 60° seat or a bonded seal.
- B – BSP thread, here BSPP to ISO 228-1.
- 9 – the 90° elbow version of the family. The same family uses 4 for the 45° version, as in 1BT4-SP.
- Size code – two digits giving the nominal thread size in sixteenths of an inch: 02 is 1/8, 04 is 1/4, 06 is 3/8, 08 is 1/2, 10 is 5/8, 12 is 3/4, 16 is 1, 20 is 1.1/4, 24 is 1.1/2, 32 is 2.
- Second size code – when two codes are joined by a hyphen, the first code is port E and the second is port F.
Worked example: 1B9-08-12. Port E is G1/2″x14 (code 08) and port F is G3/4″x14 (code 12), both male 60° seat. From the chart, A is 37.5 mm, L is 40 mm and S2 is 27 mm. The two legs are unequal, which is what lets a 1/2 inch line turn into a 3/4 inch port inside the same envelope.
4. Installation and Fitment
The 60° cone seat joint is metal-to-metal at the cone, so the thread itself does not carry the seal. Bring the stud end in by hand, check that it turns freely for the first turns, then tighten with a wrench until the cone is seated and the joint is snug.
- Do not use thread sealant or tape on a 60° cone seat joint, because the seal is at the cone, not on the thread flanks.
- When the port is a flat face, fit a new bonded seal washer or O-ring and tighten until the washer is compressed and the metal faces meet.

A 90° elbow changes the direction of the connection at the port, which is the reason to choose it over a straight adapter in four common situations.
Routing in a tight envelope: on a manifold, pump or valve block, the space in front of a port is often blocked by another component. An elbow turns the line away immediately, so the hose or tube leaves parallel to the machine surface instead of projecting into the free space.
